EU concerns for the expulsion of Croatian citizens from Serbia – Diepresse.com
The European Union has been concerned about the expression of Croatian citizens from Serbia. « We are concerned about these reports, » said a spokesman for the EUCommission in Brussels. According to Croatian diplomats, Serbia has more than a dozen Croatian citizens in the past three months, three of them in the past few days.
« We observe the situation and will not hesitate to express our concerns at the highest level towards the Serbian authorities, » said the commission spokesman. According to the Croatian ambassador, some of the designated Croatians had lived in Serbia for years and expressed their support for the protests against the Serbian government in online networks.
The protests in Serbia had been sparked by the collapse of a station vordach in the city of Novi Sad on November 1st, in which 15 people were killed. The government is under great pressure because of the continuing protests. She repeatedly described the protests controlled by abroad, but did not provide any evidence.
Relations between Croatia and Serbia have been tense since the 1990s. Several former partial republics of Yugoslavia fought each other in several wars, the Croatia war was particularly bloody. (APA/AFP)
