The Central Criminal Police on Thursday presented suspicions of violating restrictions on activities and fraud with the payment of benefits to the head of the city of Tallinn Sports Center.

On initial suspicions, the head of the sports center made decisions regarding the public organization affiliated with him and entered into agreements with this public organization to use halls and fields of the sports center. He was also suspected of obtaining benefits by fraud, which consisted of providing him to the Fund of Sports Training and Information of False Information about his coaching activities.

The investigation is at an early stage, and this is a preliminary suspicion that may change during the proceedings.

Olgerd Petersell, district prosecutor for economic and corruption crimes, said that in the performance of state duties it is necessary to take into account public interests. “All official duties must be performed honestly and transparently, and, therefore, decisions regarding state funds should not be motivated by any personal interests.”

The boss of the Bureau for Combating Corruption Crimes, Aivar Sepp said that this is a serious matter in which the leader is suspected of making decisions based on personal interest, abusing the trust that his position provided to him. “The actions of unscrupulous officials do not bring the benefits of the reputation of the sector, the client who appealed for the service, entrepreneur or competitor. Therefore, it is important that everyone who knows about the illegal activity of the official reports on this. On Thursday, employees of the Central Criminal Police carried out a number of actions in places related to the suspect.
