Estonia stops recognizing Russian non -biometric passports
Since March 31, Estonia ceases the recognition of non -bioometric foreign passports of the Russian Federation. There is a risk not to return to Estonia.
Holders of a residence permit in Estonia and other EU countries, which are currently using the Russian non -biometric foreign passport, will be able to petition for the receipt of a biometric passport until September 30, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ER reports.
The first ban will affect the citizens of the Russian Federation without a residence permit in the EU
“The non -recognition of the travel document means that the non -biometric passport cannot be used to cross the land, air or water border of Estonia or to submit a petition for a visa to Estonia,” the ministry explains.
At the same time, it pays special attention to the fact that people with a Russian non -biometric passport who have no residence permit in Estonia or other EU country will prohibit entry into Estonia.
“Holders of a residence permit from Estonia or another EU country can exchange their non -biometric passport for biometric until September 30, 2025, and before that they can, as an exception, enter Estonia and a non -biometric passport,” the ministry says on temporary reservation.
“If the owner of a non -bioometric passport does not want to travel, then the passport can not be changed.
Do not let them go back
The ministry emphasizes that Russian citizens with non -biometric passports can leave Estonia after the specified date, but will not be able to return to the er. Which, we emphasize, creates a serious risk for traveling citizens of the Russian Federation living in ER without an appropriate document.
“If a person has a non-biometric passport and a residence permit in Estonia, then after September 30 he still admits within Estonia, but no longer suitable for travel, because this document cannot be entered by Estonia. If the owner of a non -bioometric passport does not want to travel, then the passport can not be changed, ”the ministry says.
Children too
Is it necessary to petition for the receipt of a biometric passport for the child?
“Yes, non -recognition of non -biometric passports applies to all their owners, including children,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out, reporting that more information on how to petition for the receipt of the biometric passport of the Russian Federation can be found on the website of the Russian Embassy.
The ministry clarifies how to establish, is a passport by non -biometric or biometric – to pay attention to the fact that the duration of the Russian non -biometric passport is five years, and there is no symbol of an electronic travel document on the cover.
“The Russian biometric passport is issued for ten years, and on its cover there is a symbol of an electronic travel document,” it informs.
What will happen if a person does not exchange his Russian non -biometric passport for a biometric passport within the timely period?
While a person with a Russian non -biometric passport and located outside Estonia will no longer be able to enter the Republic of Estonia, a citizen of the Russian Federation with a non -biometric passport, having a Schengen visa, will be able to travel to all countries of the Schengen agreement, with the exception of those that do not recognize non -biometric passports. Such countries are Denmark, Czech Republic and Estonia.
