ESC candidates Germany: previous German participants
Germany was represented by the singer Isaak Guderian at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. With his song « Always on the Run » he reached the twelfth place in Malmö and achieved the best German result since 2019. In previous years, Germany had regularly completed in the back ranks. The appearance of Isaak Guderian thus marked a positive development for Germany in competition.
In 2025, Germany will be represented by the Austrian sibling duo Abor & Tynna. With their song « Baller » they secured the victory in the German preliminary decision « Chef’s matter ESC 2025 – who sings for Germany? » and compete in the final in Basel on May 17th.

Since the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, various German artists have appeared for their country. Since then, the spectators have been able to cheer German participants twice at the end of the evening. In 1982, the then 17-year-old Nicole sang in first place in the singing competition with her song « A little joy ». In 2010 the 19-year-old Lena Meyer-Landrut celebrate the second ESC victory for Germany with « satellite ». The singer Katja Ebstein was also successful for Germany, who competed three times at the ESC and ended up in the top 5 each time. In recent years, the German participants at the ESC have been less successful.
