Erik Gosaer is looking for witnesses of a traffic accident through social media in which his wife was injured. His wife was on his way with an electric bicycle when she was hit. The lady sustained a heavy leg fracture and was operated on for the first time. « The cyclist himself can of course always report, » says the husband.
The accident happened on Friday in the Euphrosina Beernaertstraat in Ostend. Erik’s wife was on the way in that street by bike when it suddenly went wrong at Ieperstraat. « My wife just came from the direction of the city and was suddenly hit by another electric cyclist, » says Erik who lives in Gistel. « My wife rode quietly on the cycle path, but the cyclist who came out of the park crashed straight at her. »
Both cyclists fell heavily. A few passers -by saw everything happen and eventually called the emergency services, but the cyclist had already disappeared against their arrival. « He did not wait for the ambulance or police. After the fall, the man himself indicated that he was in pain and shoulder, but afterwards he left. »
Official report
Erik hopes that the cyclist will still report to the local police. « An official report has been drawn up and my wife was immediately taken to the hospital, » says Erik. « She was operated on the same day. A new operation will follow on Tuesday or Friday. She will be doing well for the time being, but it will be a recovery period of months. »
The cyclist – or witnesses of the accident – may contact Erik or the local police. « I just want the person in question to take his responsibility. That way we can arrange everything for the insurance policies. »
The local police of Ostend confirms the incident. « It is true that an official report has been drawn up for a traffic accident with injured, » says spokeswoman Eline Goeminne. « Two cyclists collided, with the second cyclist left the place without leaving data. The investigation is currently ongoing and we will see if we can find the counterparty. »(CCA, JRO)
