Macedonian suppliers and electricity traders from June 1 will have the opportunity to supply new 1,000 consumers from the Kosovo market, where the additional phase of electricity market liberalization begins, the Energy Regulatory Commission, Water Services and Services for Municipal Waste Management (ERC) said today.

This was the occasion, according to the statement, to initiate a meeting, at which the Kosovo regulator presented to the Macedonian suppliers and traders the steps to make it easier to access the market.

– After taking over all the necessary activities as regulators and we have made mutual recognition of the supply and trade licenses, we now want to motivate companies to take advantage of this opportunity. A larger market, brings more competition, and the benefit is lower electricity prices. Now in less than a month, ie from June 1, an additional 500 GWh will be available to trade in Kosovo’s free market and this is a great business opportunity for our suppliers and traders – said Marko Bislimoski, President of the ERC.

The president of the Kosovo regulator – the office of the energy regulator of the Republic of Kosovo (ERO) Imer Fejzullahu welcomed the Macedonian suppliers, noting that they have more experience as the Macedonian market has long been liberalized.

– This is just among the step towards joining the only market that the European Union is demanding of us. In addition we all have reduced administrative barriers, and increased competition, said Imer Fejzullahu of Ero – Energy Regulator’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo (Energy Regulatory Office) – the statement said.

In order to increase the competitiveness of markets in both countries ERC and ERO in 2023 they signed a Memorandum of Cooperation that mutually recognizes the licenses for supply and trading in electricity.
