– Equality is not just a matter of justice, it is also about the quality of the work we do
Women's Day is an important reminder that gender equality in working life does not happen by itself.
– In the Directorate of Fisheries, we have a steady gender balance among both employees and managers, but we know that good internal culture and conscious leadership are the key to lasting equality, according to a press release.
With 46 per cent female employees and 44 per cent female leaders, the Directorate of Fisheries has a good gender balance, and in recent years the wage differences between men and women have also been smoothed out. But why is this important?
– Equality is not just a matter of justice, it is also about the quality of the work we do. When we have a variety of experiences and perspectives around the table, we make better decisions. This is important for the Directorate of Fisheries as a administrative body, says Fisheries Director Frank Bakke-Jensen in the press release.
Conscious work over time
Research shows that diverse teams are more innovative, make better decisions and create a better working environment. In other words, gender equality is not only good for the individuals, it strengthens the entire organization.
Equality and diversity are not something that can be adopted once and then forgotten. It requires continuous work and conscious priorities.
– We see that our numbers are stable, and that means we have a good culture for equality. But we can't take it for granted. It's about ensuring that everyone, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities to develop, be heard and get responsibility, says Bakke-Jensen.
On Women's Day, the Directorate of Fisheries encourages everyone to reflect on what equality means in practice. It is not just about formal structures, but also about culture, attitudes and everyday choices.
