In Ternat, the entrance and exit of the E40 towards Brussels was closed for more than seven hours on Wednesday morning. Early in the morning a truck tilted there that wanted to drive onto the highway. It took several hours to transfer the load of 25 tons of pork. A part is still suitable for human consumption.

The accident happened on Wednesday morning shortly before 6 am. A truck driver, who, according to the federal police, was loaded with 25 tons of pork, wanted to drive the E40 towards Brussels from the Assesteenweg. In the bend to the highway it went wrong for an unknown reason. The colossus tilted and ended up on the roadside.

An ambulance was alerted and according to the federal police the driver was slightly injured, but the man did not have to be taken to the hospital in the end. A branch firm and the owner of the pork then started working on the feat to get the entrance and exit as quickly as possible.

Food agency

An inspector of the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV) came to the scene. « The temperature control turned out to be beneficial, » says Hélène Bonte, spokeswoman at the FASFC. « The meat was tried and some proved to be suitable for human consumption. » After overloading the load, the hoist works could be started.

The truck with trailer could eventually be put on its wheels again around 12.15. It finally took until after 13 hours before the roadway could be given completely free. After hoisting, the Flemish Brabant West Fire Zone proceeded to clean the road surface. (TVP/DBG)
