English national team legend is banned from stadium
According to Neville, the background of the band’s illumination is his previous criticism of the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis.
After a show earlier in the season when Marinaki’s apparently confronted coach Nuno Espirito Santo on the field, Neville called it « scandalous ». However, the club itself denied that there should have been an actual confrontation.
For Neville, the band listing is an example of a worrying trend at Nottingham Forest.
« I have given lots of criticism for the past 14 years, but I have never tried anything like it, » he writes. « They have every right to decide who should be closed into their own stadium, but it is very symptomatic of all the things that have happened here in the club for the past 12 months. »
At the same time, Neville emphasizes that he finds the decision disappointing, especially in light of the club’s proud traditions.
Nottingham Forest has not yet commented directly on the exclusion of Neville, but the club has previously been headed for similar decisions about media and accreditation.
Sunday’s match at City Ground is crucial to Nottingham Forest, who with a win can secure a place in next season’s Champions League – depending on other results in the Premier League.
