Energy policy in focus – altaposten.no

Energy policy is the focus of the day. In Finnmark, it is in focus because the forecasts appear to indicate that we are getting too little energy to develop a viable industry in the county. Essentially, the battle seems to stand between wind power and electricity produced by gas with carbon capture and storage (CCS). In addition, there have been very attempts to develop nuclear power.

The government has advocated a sharp development of wind power. To me, this seems like the most unstable power produced. As soon as there is wind in Europe, rise the prices of electricity to high heights. I am not fond of wind turbines, but I do not think wind farms will kill the reindeer husbandry. It is probably climate change, which green energy will counteract, which will be the largest bend for that industry. However, I do not think wind turbines, either on land or sea, will remain in the winner in future electricity production.

Nuclear power that may be the least in the wind is a stable and cheap energy that has been used for a long time in the world. Developments in the field are also said to have come a long way in the development of safer power plants with less radioactive waste. Perhaps this is the energy source that will supplement our pure hydropower in the future. Fortunately, we have so much hydropower in Norway that it mostly, most years, covers the country’s need for electricity. Efficiency of old turbines and extensive savings/streamlining of power consumption will also be able to postpone the power crisis for a few years.

In the power debate, it seems that the individual debater chooses its form of energy and cuts the head of everyone else for their choices. Perhaps the future will consist of all the aforementioned energy solutions and some that have not yet come on the table. It seems not constructive to fight all green energy forms that do not represent their own preferred solutions.
