Encompassed fire forces school to set up student celebrations

The fire alarm came in at 04 o’clock. When the rescue service arrived at the site, the industrial premises in Öjebyn were in full fire.

A VMA, important message to the public, was issued and people in the area around Öjebyn and Bergsviken were invited to go indoors and close doors.

Daniel Haarala, head of operations on site, describes the venue as « football sized » where various industrial activities have housed.

Do you know why the fire started?

– No, it was very long when we arrived. It is impossible to say.

At 08, the rescue service claimed the VMA that expired.

– It still burns inside the room with smoke development and flames. Right now we are in the process of decommissioning the effort but still has a strength to make sure it does not spread, says Daniel Haarala.

But the fire has had consequences for school closures nearby. According to Piteå-Tidningen, the degree celebration at several schools in Öjebyn is canceled as a result of the fire and smoke development. But for the departure students at Gran’s Natural Gymnasium, which is located near the industrial building, the student is saved according to Daniel Haarala.

– We have had conversations with the principal there and said that the wind is favorable and does not go to the direction of the school and as long as it is there is no danger to celebrate the student, he says.
