Employment, 3 million potential workers in less in 10 years: the regions that will suffer the most

In the next ten years, the working age population present in Italy will decrease by almost 3 million units (precisely 2,908,000), equal to a 7.8%reduction. At the beginning of 2025 this demographic band had 37.3 million people; The audience is expected in 2035 will drop to 34.4 million. « Our country risks depopulation of the potentially occupable registry cohort », is the alarm launched by the Cgia di Mestre which analyzed the forecasts of 107 Italian provinces. « Many companies, in particular small ones, will be forced to reduce the staff due to the impossibility of proceeding with hiring – reads the analysis -. As for medium and large companies, however, the problem could be less relevant ».
The regions that will lose more workforce
Of the 3 million less people who take care of the registry band between 15 and 64 years of age, half will affect the regions of the South. The most critical scenario will invest Sardinia which within the next decade will suffer a reduction in this audience of people of 15.1% (-147,697 people), explains the CGIA. Basilicata follow with -14.8% (-49,685), Puglia with -12.7% (-312,807), Calabria with -12.1% (-139,450) and Molise with -11.9% ( -21,323).
The less impact regions
On the other hand, the regions that will undergo the impact of the collapse of the number of people in working age will be Trentino Alto Adige with -3.1% (-21.256) Lombardy with -2.9% (-189,708) and, finally, Emilia Romagna with -2.8% (-79.007) (see Tab. 1 and Graf. 1).
The comparison between the provinces
At the provincial level, however, the most important flexion will occur in Nuoro with -17.9%. South Sardinia follow with -17.7, Caltanissetta with -17.6, Enna with -17.5 and power with -17.3. In absolute value, the province that will undergo the most important loss is Naples with -236,677 people. Among the provinces less affected by the contraction we point out Bologna with -1.4 percent, Prato with -1.1 and, finally, Parma with -0.6 (see Tab. 2).
