The annual carnival will start in Halle on Saturday evening. This year the emergency services are using a drone to keep a better overview of the crowds and to be able to intervene faster if needed. « We want everyone to be able to party carefree, » says Mayor Eva Demesmaeker. « That is why we do everything we can to respond quickly when something happens. Our new drone is a big help. »

It is a drone of the DJI Matrice 30T type, a robust and professional device that is resistant to wind and rain. It is equipped with a powerful camera and infrared technology, so that the emergency services can watch live both during the day and at night, even in poor visibility. During carnival, the drone is mainly focused on peak times, to be able to respond faster with incidents or medical calls, to detect suspicious situations such as thieves on car parks, or to search for missing persons through heat detection in the evening.

« On Sunday the carnival procession will travel through the center and it will be extra busy, » says the mayor. “Then the Zennevallei police zone (Halle/Beersel/Sint-Pieters-Leeuw) gets reinforcement of an extra drone team from colleagues from Zone Amow (Asse/Merchtem/Opwijk/Wemmel). During the carnival days we ask for no drones to fly over the party zone or other DravaTeteten. the functioning of the safety drones disturb. « 

The drone can also be used at other times, such as the Maria Procession, in the event of accidents or storm damage, as support for searches of the emergency services, for the inspection of city buildings, or following large yards.

During the carnival weekend, the city of Halle also extensively expanded the camera child during the carnival weekend. In total, the emergency services can follow 21 cameras live, twelve 12 more than last year.
