Elksnins Party, after winning in Daugavpils, calls for direct Mayor and Presidential Election / Day

Political power believes that in the last local elections, « a new page in history has been recorded, since no party has received such a support in Daugavpils since the restoration of Latvia’s independence. »

He also believes that one of the prerequisites for Latgale and Latvia can develop and flourish is constitutional change.

« Firstly, we need direct elections to lead the cities, not the impersonal coalitions, but those chosen by the people. Secondly, at least half of the members of the Saeima must be elected to the single -member electoral system so that the Member will personally respond to his voter, not hidden behind the party list. »

There is also a need for direct presidential elections so that the head of state does not depend on the parties and may be an independent decision -maker in crisis situations.

It has already been reported that, according to the Central Election Commission, 14 of the 15 deputies in Daugavpils have been acquired by the former mayor of the city, Elksnins « Sarauj, Latgale! ».

One of the other parties in the Daugavpils City Council has managed to gain only the « Latvian Development » party.

Voter turnout in Daugavpils was mediocre and reached 42.4% of the voters.
