Eleven former top politicians: « merge L and C »
It is obvious that something must happen in the political center. The Liberals disappear and the Center Party is weakened by internal ages. The old middle block is in waste but should be able to be piled together and reinforced. The Moderates and Social Democrats should see such a development with satisfaction.
The old division into a right and left block has become increasingly cemented with the emergence of the Swedish Democrats and the weakening of the middle parties. It is tragic at a time when liberal democracy and the rule of law are under strong pressure. The reason of social care and freedom that social liberalism stands for is indispensable to restore the good social community.
A power collection In the middle is therefore motivated for its own sake, but also for political strategic reasons. There is no indication that the two alternative government -bearing parties The Social Democrats and the Moderates can currently imagine co -rule, even though strong factual political reasons are talking about it. Perhaps the pointed situation in the world can get them to take joint responsibility.
Otherwise, the question remains in which way one or the other of these parties should lean to conquer and retain government power, outward towards the Swedish Democrats and the Left Party – or inward against liberally minded parties. At present, there is not really the latter option. In order to liberate the Social Democrats and the Moderates from the dependence on extremity parties, middle parties are required with more powerful political muscles than they are today equipped with.
More than for a long time, our country needs brave politicians who are able to warm up a social climate that feels icy cold
Such a political force is not today. It is to harm the development of society. More than ever, politicians would be needed who dare to keep opportunism bar. When populism drives proposals that step by step, repression increases and limits the individual’s freedom, such political power is particularly important.
More than for a long time, our country needs brave politicians who are able to warm up a social climate that feels icy cold and unfriendly to many with a foreign background.
More than ever, we need a strong social liberal party based on market economy and free trade, which with respect for each person’s value and dignity is able to weigh the importance of collective compulsory efforts against loss of individuals’ freedom and integrity. A party that represents the enlightened reason and is guided by a pounding heart for vulnerable people.
Both the internal problems of the Liberals and the Center are ultimately about the unwillingness and uneasy to be forced to be a support party
We meet many As with worried mines, what happened to the Old People’s Party. Similarly, there are certainly center parties who wonder why their party collapsed, Christian Democrats who lack the Alf Svensson stood for by warmth and realism, environmental partners who are missing to think back to the time with Maria Wetterstrands and Peter Eriksson’s down -to -earth environmental policy, moderates who feel deeply uncomfortable with having to reversal
In short, a significant group of potential sympathizers of a social liberal middle alternative.
Both the internal problems of the Liberals and the Center are ultimately about the unwillingness and uneasy to be forced to be a support party to either a right -wing government leaning against the Sweden Democrats or a left -wing government that is dependent on the Left Party. Both C and L have seen themselves guarantee that politics stays a middle of the center and does not drive out either the right or the left. A re -collection in the middle should be able to attach the internal conflicts in both of these parties.
The question of one Social liberal power collection in the middle is thus about which course Swedish politics will take in the coming decades. Continued internal split and ideological delusion within the middle parties risk leading to solutions of central political problems that a broad majority of voters do not want to see.
Such an attempt was made half a century ago but then failed
Both the Center and the Liberals are now facing the shift of party leaders. It gives them reasons to think about how liberal ideas and suggestions could be given increased weight. The new leaders should obtain a mandate to restore such consensus between the parties that could eventually make a merger possible.
Such an attempt was made half a century ago but then failed. Today, the parties are ideologically much closer. This should mean that there are conditions for the power collection in the middle that is so urgent.
