Elephant Born in Pairi Daiza

The newborn elephant and his mother are doing well. Both are surrounded with the greatest care by the teams of the park, within their close matriarchal group. With this birth, the elephant herd of Pairi Daiza now has 16 animals.

Farina responded immediately after birth. As elephant mothers often do, she gave her newborn taps with her leg against the flank to stimulate the lungs and help him breathe. After a few attempts, encouraged by the group, the elephant also managed to get up and drink his first sip of breast milk.

The elephant will take his first steps in the open air from Monday, accompanied by his mother and the rest of the herd. The name of the elephant can soon be voted on via the official Facebook page of the park. The caregivers will first select four names, which they then present to the visitors.
