Elbasan Ethnographic Museum opens the doors after restoration, works are completed one month before the deadline

The Ethnographic Museum of Elbasan, one of the most important cultural institutions in the country, has recently completed a total restoration process, which has been completed one month ahead of the set deadline.

Thanks to the support of Elbasan Municipality and cooperation with the Korça Regional Cultural Heritage Directorate, this second major investment in the museum since its opening in 1986, has restored the brilliance of one of the most representative buildings of our heritage. Restoration included the roof, the chardak, the handrails, the facade, the windows and other indigenous elements of the apartment, always carefully to preserve its historical and architectural identity.

On March 14, the museum opened the doors to the public with a refreshed view and even richer content, offering visitors an authentic experience in the roots of history, culture and living of the Elbasan area.

This museum exhibits about 80 traditional crafts, reflecting the mastery, lifestyle and economic development of the city over the centuries. Situated in a characteristic dwelling of the XVIII century, proclaimed Category I Cultural Monument, the Museum carries in every corner the spirit of an ancient city that knows how to preserve and appreciate heritage.
In his visit to the Restored Museum, the Mayor of Elbasan, Gledian Latja, said that « History and cultural heritage are the most precious treasures we have. Investing in museums is not just restoration of a building, but a dignified return of our memory and identity.
The Ethnographic Museum stands open every day of the week and welcomes visitors from the country and abroad, who want to get acquainted with the lives of our ancestors, clothing, traditions, crafts and all the spiritual wealth of this city.
