Editor’s tips: series beads for long couch evenings
« Acapulco »
By Jeff Karier
Bizarre, heartwarming and refreshing: With these words, the series « Acapulco », which plays in Mexico of the same name, can be summarized. The series produced for Apple TV+ tells the story of Maximo (Eugenio Derbez/Enrique Arrizon) on two time levels, which starts as a small employee in a holiday resort and later becomes a multimillionaire.
The three seasons with a total of 30 episodes are available on Apple TV+.
« 1670 »
By Frederik Wember
A little niche, but very funny: In the mockmentary « 1670 », the rise of a mentally and monetary moderately average rural and his family is shown. For me, the absurdity and humor result from importing modern ideas and terms into a fundamentally historical setting, especially since the series plays in quite conservative Poland to date. By the way, the village of Adamczychna, in which the Adamczewski nobility family is up to mischief, really exists.
The eight episodes of the Polish series are available on Netflix.
« Extraordinary Attorney Woo »
By Marc Thill
One of the best K-Drama series is undoubtedly « Extraordinary Attorney Woo »: she deals with a young autistic lawyer named Woo Young-Woo (Park Eun-Bin), who is in one of the most renowned law firms in South Korea with her job and her relationships. She uses her creative mind, incredible memory and extreme intelligence to win cases for her law firm. The series wants to clean up with false ideas what a life with autism can look like and shows how woo finds its way around friendships and romantic relationships. In South Korea, where the views of the neurodive community are much more shaped by shame and lack of consciousness than in this country, the format was praised by many.
The 16 episodes of the series are available on Netflix.
« Dave »

« Dave » is a comedy series that portrays the life of the ambitious rapper Lil Dicky in Los Angeles. With embarrassing moments, bizarre encounters with stars like Brad Pitt and unexpected twists, the series offers an entertaining insight into the music industry.
The two seasons of the series with a total of 20 episodes are available on Disney+.
« The Shield »
By Sebastian Weisbrodt
Even if she is a bit older and has never made the jump into the mainstream, the series « The Shield » captivates the spectators from the first episode. Over seven seasons you follow the path of the outward corrupt police officer Vic Mackay, but thanks to Michael Chiklis’ strong acting performance, it always remains a figure of identification. The Shawn Ryan’s TV drama also brings one of the most difficult tricks of a long, ongoing story: a terrific ending that underlines the overall quality of the series again.
The seven seasons of the series are available on Amazon Prime Video.
« Girls5eva »
By Michael Juchmes
Anyone who loves crazy comedy in the style of « 30 Rock » and « Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt » (because Tina Fey also had their fingers there) will love « Girls5eva »: The series is about a five-member girl band that ended up a hit in the 1990s and celebrates a comeback as a quartet. The way back to success is anything but child’s play, because the band members have lived apart. The main roles include Sara Bareilles, who herself as a singer in the USA with some albums, as well as Busy Philipps (« Dawson’s Creek », « Cougar Town ») and Paula Pell (« Saturday Night Live »).
The three seasons of the series with a total of 22 episodes are available on Netflix.
