Ed Sheeran publishes new single
Sitar sounds meet British pop: Ed Sheeran has released a new single. « Sapphire » sounds like a typical sheeran song, but with South Asian influences-including percussion, sitar and multi-part vocals. It is the third single of his new album « Play », which is due to be released on September 12th.
The 34-year-old worked for “Sapphire” with the Indian musician Arijit Singh. In the music video for the song, the legendary Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan appears in one place.
Sheeran’s new album seems to be inspired by global musical influences. The first single of the album bears the Persian title « Azizam ». The album announcement states: « Inspired by his encounter with Indian and Persian music-and their surprising parallels to the Irish folk tradition of his childhood, for example in loners, rhythms and melodies-Sheeran goes on a musical trip. »
« Sapphire » was the first song for « Play », where I knew immediately: exactly in this direction the album should go, « quotes Warner Music the pop star. « That is why he ended the recording process in Goa – surrounded by some of the best musicians in India. »
Sheeran (“Shape of You”) is one of the most famous pop stars in the world. He sold more than 45 million albums and 150 million singles worldwide. This year the Brit also appears in Germany, with concerts in Stuttgart, Hamburg and Düsseldorf.
