The European Commission said today that it has paid an additional tranche of one billion euros from the macrofinancial aid loan to Ukraine, which will be repaid with the revenue of frozen Russian property in the European Union.

« With today's payment of one billion euros, we confirm our strong commitment to Ukraine. We help the country's economy recover and restore critical infrastructure damaged by Russian aggression. We will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary, » said European Commission President Ursula.

Support will help rebuild Ukraine after Russian attacks. The funds will be used for current and future military support, budget needs and renewal needs, as well as to restore critical infrastructure, such as energy capacities, water systems, transport networks, roads and bridges.

Today's payment is part of the G7 initiative aimed at providing about 45 billion euros in financial support for Ukraine by 2027.

EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaya Kalas said EU support for Ukraine must be expressed by actions, especially with Kiev's ammunition.

– If you listen to the leaders' statements, the support is very big, but it should also be seen with works, in numbers, in the real ammunition that Ukraine needs. So I really hope to move forward – Kalas said ahead of today's EU summit in Brussels.

During the summit, Callas will present a proposal to secure two million artillery shells of Ukraine.

Outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Holz has said Europe must continue with strong support for Ukraine, no matter what negotiations are being conducted between Washington and Moscow.

– We need to continue our support with a clear position that Ukraine must be possible for righteous peace. That means Ukraine can defend its independence and sovereignty, that it chooses its own path and its leaders and of course there is a strong army in peaceful times – Holz added ahead of EU leaders meeting.
