EAU include in the educational system since the kindergarten
The United Arab Emirates (EAU) approved this Sunday the inclusion, from the next school year, of the Artificial Intelligence (IA) discipline in the educational curriculum of all academic levels. The decision included the kindergarten.
The EAU government “approved today the final curriculum of the IA discipline at all levels of public education (…), from kindergarten to 12 year, from next school year,” said the country’s prime minister on social network X.
Mohammed bin rashid al-maktoum explained that the measure is part of the state’s long-term plans to prepare future generations for « a different future, a new world of advanced skills. »
In this sense, quoted by the Lusa agency, it expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Education in the development of the curriculum and stated that AI « will change the nature of the life of the world. »
« Our goal is to teach children and generations an understanding of AI in a technical perspective, » but also « instilling in consciousness the ethics of this new technology, strengthening their understanding of their data, algorithms, applications, risks and how society is linked to life, » he said.
Education Minister Sarah Bint Yousef Al Amicir has confirmed that the new discipline covers seven main areas of fundamental concepts: data, algorithms, software applications, AI ethics, AI -world applications, innovation, and project design led by AI, policies and social involvement.
According to Sarah Bint Yousef Al Aimiri, the new resume offers modules suitable for age, from kindergarten to 12 year.
In 2017, the EAU became the first country in the world to appoint a minister of state to AI and were pioneers in development and investment in this technology, with the aim of becoming leaders in the sector and diversifying their highly hydrocarbon-dependent economy.
