Easter: Accuracy « breaks » earlier chocolate eggs – Imination products with palm oil

This year the Easter chocolate eggs will be smaller and at the same time more expensive, while chocolate imitation products are added to the shelves.

Chocolate has become more expensive for several years due to the weather in West Africa, especially in Ghana and Campus, from which at least half of the cocoa beans come from the world. The wholesale price in 2024 ranged to 4 – 4.5 euros per kilo while in 2025 increased to 11 to 12 euros per kilo, an increase of 180%.

While pastry companies say they have absorbed part of the cocoa price burden, the size of the increase is such that it has an impact on prices and new trends with products produced by cheaper raw materials.

For the first time on the shelf of chocolate imitation

« What consumers will see first this year is the chocolate imitation products that have a palm tree oil and butter, » he said, adding that their price is one -third below chocolate eggs.

Increases are also observed in buns. Specifically, half a kilo of bun costs 2.98 euros in 2024. The price is EUR 3.48 in 2025, an increase of 16.78%. 450 grams of a private label that cost € 1.93 in 2024 today costs 2.61%, an increase of 35.23%.
