Professor of Geology and President of OASP Efthymios Lekkas appeared reassuring by speaking to ERT about the ongoing earthquakes in Evia.

« It is the third earthquake over 4 Richter in the last 24 hours of the seismic activity. As I had pointed out from the beginning we would have such earthquakes in the order of 4 and 5 Richter for the next few days. We say this because we had the same image in previous seismic excavations. « 

He added that the tectonic regime of the area is such that it gives us this image. That is, earthquakes from 4 to 5 Richter that evolve within three and five days.

« I don’t think there is a particular reason for concern but we are watching the evolution of the phenomenon. The necessary instructions have been given to residents and authorities in the area. I think the sizes will remain at this level, ”said Lekkas.

Akis Zelentis said in a post that an earthquake of 5.5 Richter was likely.

« This will have a serious impact on the already burdened building web of the area and some collapses of very old already burdened houses, » he said in a post.
