Earthquake in Colombia. Masses from Mass and Streets say everything
There are already recordings on the internet showing how dramatic moments were right after the shocks. On one of the films you can see the interior of the church. The Holy Mass is underway. The priest stands at the altar, says the prayer. Suddenly the camera begins to shake. The image waves. The priest interrupts and stops. There is silence for a moment. And then – panic. The faithful scream, a pitch of terror is heard. People are trying to leave the temple.
The lanterns are swaying like reeds
On another recording from the street you can see swaying lanterns. The poles bend to the rhythm of underground vibrations. These are the details: wavy facades, leaning lanterns, shaking facades testify to the scale of the phenomenon.
Epicenter close to Paratebueno. The effects are felt throughout the country
According to the Colombian Geological Institute, the epicenter was near Paratebuene in the Cundinamarca department. Depth of shock: about 30 km. A few secondary – with magnitude from 4.0 to 4.9, occurred after the main quilts.
Some buildings suffered damage, in several places there were power outages. Some roads have been blocked by landslides or destruction of the surface. The authorities calm down: there is no information about people who died. However, there were cases of panic attacks and light injuries.
The authorities mobilize emergency services
Fire brigades, civil defense and the national crisis response system were involved in the activities. Searching for the most affected regions is ongoing. The government calls for caution and tracking messages.
The June 8 earthquake is one of the strongest recorded in recent years in this area. Colombia lies at the interface of tectonic plates and is a country with a high seismic risk.
