Central Criminal Police (KRP) Preliminary investigation into the Baltic Sea cable damage last December was completed. Eagle S’s officers are suspected of aggravated destruction and aggravated telecommunications harassment.
Among the suspects are the captain of the ship, the chief of the ship and the mate, Krp says in the release. The police received a clear idea of the pre -trial investigation.
« The pre -trial investigation has been examined and assessed, among other things, what kind of responsibility the trio has had for the condition of the ship and to what extent they should have observed the fall of the anchor in the sea, » says the Investigator, Criminal Commissioner Sami Liimatainen.
Next, the matter will be transferred to the Prosecutor General’s office.
Cooksaari a tank ship sailing under the flag Eagle S moved on Christmas Day in 2024 near the Estlink 2 communication cable at the bottom of the Baltic Sea Shortly before it was damaged.
The ship was believed to have dragged its anchor on the seabed so that it hit the cable.
Finnish authorities ordered the ship to the Finnish waters of Finland to investigate the matter.
