Duel between attractive men in Schaffhausen

To the left against right – the two camps fight for a seat in the small chamber. Perhaps a non -party.

There is a duel in Schaffhausen on June 29: Stocker against Brüngger. The non -partisan former Council of States Thomas Minder has not yet officially announced whether it will start again. In the northern canton, however, it is assumed that the entrepreneur does without.

The Council of States is observed throughout Switzerland. Simon Stocker lost his office in an unusual way: The Federal Court annuled the election of autumn 2023 ten days ago because Stocker did not have the center of life in the canton of Schaffhausen at the time.

Who the green liberals recommend is still open

The SVP now stands behind the FDP candidates, the middle will probably do that too – but this party is very small in Schaffhausen. It is more important for whom the green liberals are. Party President Christoph Hak says: « Since the FDP candidate Severin Brüngger has not missed the opportunity to attack the green liberals in recent years and to teach them about what is liberal and what is not, a support of the GLP for Simon Stocker or a vocal approval is conceivable. The party will decide on April 9 about its preference.

Severin Brüngger sits both in the Schaffhaus city parliament and on the cantonal council. The former top handball player is a pilot at Easyjet. SVP National Councilor Thomas Hurter says about him: «Brüngger now quickly has to ensure that you know who he is in the Schaffhauser rural communities. So far he has been a well -known figure, especially in the city. »

Brüngger does not contradict: « I have lived in Siblingen in Klettgau for four years – but it is true that I will take care of the rural population intensively in the next few weeks. » Regarding the critical attitude of the GLP, he explains that there were friction points with the green liberals in the city, where the bourgeoisies are in the opposition. « The FDP and the GLP work very well together in the cantonal parliament. »

FDP applicants are vying to supporters of the SVP

The challenge for Brüngger is to mobilize the SVP sympathizers. The People’s Party reaches a voter share of around 25 percent in the canton of Schaffhausen. Brüngger now criticizes his competitor: “Simon Stocker is not a pragmatic left like Daniel Jositsch. He is tight on a party line in all important questions and also supported the Juso environmental responsibility initiative, which would have led to an enormous loss of wealth and was rejected by 70 percent of the Schaffhaus voting population. » Simon Stocker and Hannes Germann (SVP) would hardly have voted on the Council of States – an undivided Schaffhaus standing voice would be much better.

Simon Stocker replies: «I have heard such statements since I was in politics. As a Council of States, I am not always on a party line – but I am a social democrat. I am not for the abolition of the army and I am against the inheritance template of the young socialists. I politicize factually and am compromising; You know that in the canton of Schaffhausen. »
