Dudelingen’s handball players defend the cup title
Great cheering about the renewed cup triumph: The handball women of the HB Dudelingen have conquered the trophy in the Lotie Nationale Coupe de Luxembourg for the third time in a row. In an extremely exciting final on Sunday, the team around captain Laura Willems defeated the permanent rival HB Käerjeng with 20:19. For Dudelingen’s team of women, it is the 17th cup title in the club’s history.
On Friday, both endgame controllers had won their semi-final games significantly. The defending champion had prevailed against the HB Museldall, the challenger against Chev Diekirch.
In the final on Sunday in the Coque between the first and the second of the regular league season, on the other hand, a close duel was to be expected in front of 780 spectators. That’s how it came. In the first half, Dudelingen had the better start with the first goal of Lara Steffen, then Käerjeng was ahead. The HBD got the upper hand again, but Käerjeng pulled away with six goals within ten minutes (5: 9). At halftime, the women from Niederschen were 11: 8.

After the change of sides, the permanent rivals continued to fight a tough fight. On both sides, the goalkeepers, Dudelingen, Barbara Fangueiro and Käerjengs Zorana Jurcevic, thwarted numerous opposing opportunities with their parades. Svenia Gambini and Joy Wirtz met several times and brought the defending champion back (14:14).

It remained exciting, the opponents were always on the same way, then the reigning champion Düdelingen went into the final phase with a tight tour. At the last minute, Fangueiro prevented the equalization by Tina Welter at 20:19. And the HBD women, in which Joy Wirtz with eight goals and Gambini with six were the best throwers, brought the success to the finish. As on Friday, the only 18-year-old goalkeeper Fangueiro, who shone with 20 parades, was awarded the best player in the game.
