Dry satisfaction with Gudrun’s leadership

The fascination with the new leadership of the Independence Party is very modest, according to a Machine poll, only 19% believe that it has performed well, but among the Independence Party supporters, however, 59% believe that it has done well.

Looking at all answers in the survey, the result is very dreamy. The majority or 53% believe that the new party leadership under the chairmanship of Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir has directly performed poorly, 28% that she has been moderate, but 19% as previously stated.

The Maskina survey was conducted from 15 to 20 May 2025.

The survey was conducted for the podcast Get good! in the supervision of Olaf Skaftadóttir and Kristín Gunnarsdóttir. Asking about the leadership is well confined to the declared editorial policy of the podcast, to look at the man more than the issues.

However, considering the overall results, it must be taken into account that supporters of other parties are unlikely to express satisfaction with the performance of the Independents, but according to the Maskina survey, the Independence Party now also has a 19% follow -up.

Moderate satisfaction

However, it is not so that they are all very happy with the performance of the party leadership. 59% of the Independence Party supporters think it is good, but 28% that it is only moderate. However, 13% believe that the leadership has been badly failed.

It must be considered a poor conclusion for Gudrun Hafsteinsdóttir, chairman of the Independence Party, even though her presidency has been short.

Following measurements do not move

In this context, the party’s national government must also raise concerns. As previously stated, it was 19%, which is exactly the same as the party got in parliamentary elections at the end of November last year. It is the smallest follow -up that the party has received and was one of the reasons why Bjarni Benediktsson decided to withdraw and launch a new lead.

Given the follow-up measurements since then, nothing has moved, but it was precisely the main goal of Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir in her chairmanship, that she wanted to widen the party’s appeal and increase the follow-up towards 30-40% as was the case earlier in the years.

Not all reconciliation after national assembly

Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir was elected chairman of the Independence Party National Assembly at the beginning of March with 50.11% of the vote, so it could hardly be the case and it was clear that a new chairman had a job to work to reconcile different perspectives in the party and lead the opposition by Þrótti.

This was especially true in light of the fact that in his election campaign Guðrún had emphasized that the party had for some reason not reached a previous accompanying flight, but on the contrary, the path had been steadily downward. To that end, she wanted to begin the old value of the party for the road and respect, mentioned « class with class » and how the party needed to be a broad -based, regardless of residence, economy or gender.

At the same time, Gudrun specifically mentioned that old cries should be canceled in the category and reiterated that she herself belonged to no array in him. On the other hand, it was complicated that the followers of Guðlaug Þór Þórðarsson, the so -called « gold », were unbroken behind her, and some of them went very hard to choose a « right » representative at a national meeting. Dissatisfaction because it did not diminish when it became clear that she had won a few votes.

Little time

It may be explained to some extent why supporters’ satisfaction with the lead is equal, and it is actually testified that the chairman still has a job to work to gain the confidence of all party members – including those who did not vote for Gudrun – as it was not three months since she took the presidency.

It is also worth mentioning that Gudrun went abroad on the extent that the fishing tax bill entered the Althingi and has therefore not been prominent in political debate, precisely when she has risen at the beginning of a new term. It has certainly had its say when the survey was done in the middle of this month.

The survey was submitted to the National Gate of Machine, a random sample of 18 years and older from the National Register and responding to the Internet. They are weighed according to the population figures of Statistics Iceland on gender, age, residence and education to reflect the nation. The survey took place from 15. To 20 May 2025 and there were 1,158 respondents.
