In the night from Friday to Saturday, a driver in Roosdaal caused a havoc and then committed a fleeing crime. Unfortunately for the perpetrator, his number plate was left behind due to the heavy collision. Thanks to the quick action by the police, the driver, a resident of Ninove, could be intercepted shortly before he arrived at home.
The accident occurred around 3.45 in the Poelkstraat in Roosdaal. « A driver drove his van in a garden with his delivery van and then bumped into a veranda, » says spokesperson Wouter Jeanfils of the Flemish Brabant West police zone. « There was quite a bit of damage, but nobody was injured. We had to support the veranda. The house itself was not hit. »
Driving license withdrawn
Steven De Ridder, press spokesperson for police zone Tarl (Ternat, Roosdaal, Liederkerke), confirms the incident: « Around 3.45 our team received a report. On the spot, agents found a number plate that came from the escape vehicle. On that basis we were able to quickly find out where the suspected director lived. »
A second police team was immediately sent in the direction of the address. « They could intercept the man before he was inside his home, » said De Ridder. « It was established that he was firmly driven under the influence of alcohol, but I can’t say anything about the exact promillage. His driver’s license was immediately withdrawn. »
Trail
The driver would have had a collision on his escape route, possibly against street furniture, but there is no complete clarity about that. « We are waiting for additional reports of any damage to municipal property. Those kinds of goods are usually indicated later. »
The fire brigade also reported a significant oil trail on the road that the police would have led to the driver’s home without left behind. In the meantime, the track was cleaned up by the fire brigade with a tanker.
