Houthalen-Helchteren

The heavy evening rush hour from Houthalen towards Hasselt was caused by a drunken driver who lost his driver’s license half an hour earlier during a check in the LRH police zone. On the big job he became involved in an accident after he ignored the red traffic light.

On Thursday just after 4 pm the 41-year-old drunk man drove his Tesla towards Hasselt. Just before the bridge over the motorway, he ignored the red traffic light and bumped into a car that turned the bridge over the E314 from the industrial site. The two drivers were taken to the hospital in Heusden for a check -up.

Alcohol test

An alcohol test showed that the driver who had caused the accident was above the limit. It also quickly became clear that he had already been checked half an hour earlier by a team from the LRH police and his driver’s license was immediately withdrawn for 15 days by order of the public prosecutor’s office. Within the period of approximately 30 minutes, he crawled back behind the wheel of his Tesla and therefore caused the accident.

The evening rush hour on the Grote Baan in Houthalen was very difficult. The Carma police arrived to arrange traffic. The two cars had to be towed. The man will later have to answer for the police judge for a whole host of violations.
