Dropping this common ingredient can ‘reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and mortality’
The research published in Jama Internal Medicine showed that people who took more butter instead of these oils had a higher BMI.
This group was also more likely to smoke, less likely to exercise and less likely to take multivitamins.
The participants who consumed the most butter in the study had a 15 percent higher risk of death compared to those who ate the least butter.
Conversely, those who consumed the most plant -based oils experienced a 16 percent reduced risk of death compared to those who consumed the fewest plant oils.
The risk of death fell by 8 percent when eating more plant oil instead of butter. Soybean oil and rapeseed oil had the strongest connection with reduced mortality, writes British media Express.
For every five grams of butter, participants consumed daily, their death risk increased by 4 percent. Overall, the study concluded that replacing 10 grams of butter daily with 10 grams of plant -based oils resulted in a 17 percent reduction in mortality.
The study also showed a 6 percent reduction in deaths due to cardiovascular disease and a significant 17 percent decline in deaths caused by cancer. People who consumed 10 grams of plant oil daily experienced an 11 percent lower risk of dying from cancer and a 6 percent lower risk of death due to cardiovascular disease.
But it was not only positive for those who preferred plant oils when this group showed higher consumption of alcohol.
« Replacing butter with plant -based oils can provide significant benefits in the prevention of premature death, » the researchers said as a conclusion to their study.
The team of researchers also suggested that the observed benefits are probably associated with the high content of unsaturated fats in plant oils.
However, they emphasized the importance of future research to investigate and compare the metabolic effects of choosing plant oils rather than butter.
