Driver who hit the husband and son during replaced car tire suspected for manslaughter

The driver who arrived two people in Flémalle last Monday was arrested and suspected for unintentional manslaughter. The Liège public prosecutor announced this on Monday. One of the two people died on the spot.

The facts took place on March 31 at around 3 pm on the Avenue Théodule Gonda in Flémalle, in the province of Liège. A father and son were busy replacing a wheel when they were hit by a vehicle. The son died on the spot, the father was injured and is therefore incapacitated for work for ten days.

The driver committed fleeing crime. According to the public prosecutor, the local police of Flémalle and the federal police were able to trace him. The man, a thirties who was not known by the judiciary, was arrested in his home on Saturday.

« The suspect was brought before the investigating judge, » says the Public Prosecution Service. « During the interrogation, he stated that he thought he had hit an object or an animal and admitted that he had fled. He also admitted that he did not take any action after he realized that he was involved in a fatal accident. »

The driver is charged unintended manslaughter and flight crime. The case is being investigated further.
