A 27-year-old man from Vleteren suffered serious injuries on Wednesday night on the lower limbs in a heavy traffic accident in Bikschote (Langemark-Poelkapelle). The man left the road in his van and bumped into a stone diver. Because of the blow, the man was pinched with his legs and it took a while before he could be freed by the fire brigade.
The traffic accident happened at 00.25 in the Bikschotestraat, the road between Langemark and the village of Bikschote. According to the police, a 27 -year -old man drove from Vleteren in his Opel Combo in the direction of Bikschote when it went wrong for an unclear reason. What exactly happened is not clear, the police are still investigating the circumstances. Possibly the twenties fell asleep and therefore he suddenly got rid of his road. He went to the left of the road and bumped into a stone diver, after which the left side of the van also hit an electricity pole. A passer-by called the emergency services, after which an ambulance, MUG team, the police and fire station Houthulst rushed on the spot.
The man first received the necessary worries by the doctors and received a means against the pain relief. Because according to the first estimate he was not in danger, the fire brigade was then able to free the man as carefully as possible. That was not a simple job because, according to the fire brigade, the man was stuck firmly with his legs. He remained conscious all the time. After being taken out of the wreck, the man was transferred to the Jan Yperman Hospital in Ypres. Because there were no third parties involved, the public prosecutor did not appoint a traffic expert. The Bikschotestraat remained closed for a while until the Opel, which was reduced to scrap, was towed. (JHM)
