DRIVATION OF De Wever does not take Brussels government a step closer: « The usual arrogance of a separatist »
First the facts: the Brussels -Capital Region is with a deficit of 1.7 billion euros on a total budget of 7 billion euros. Next year that shortage will increase to 2.7 billion euros. And they are on a debt mountain of 15.6 billion euros. In the meantime we are eleven months after the elections. The Brussels -Capital Region still has no government. The conversations are stuck in a hopeless tangle of vetos and feuds.
For example, PS absolutely does not want to know about a government with N-VA. Prime Minister Bart De Wever (N-VA) noted that he is waiting for Brussels to no longer get her financing and comes to ask for support from the federal government. « Then I will behave like the IMF. » Read: impose a huge reform as a condition for support.
The idea is certainly in the wrong way at Brussels PS leader Ahmed Laaouej. « The prime minister is a nationalist, anti-Brussels separatist. For him, the Constitution is a rag paper, making him not bound, » says he on RTL. He points out that the federal government itself has a dramatic budget. « And with the help of MR, N-VA pushes those burdens to the regions to feed Brussels and Wallonia. » He says he is in dialogue with other parties to make a government without N-VA. He even leaves the door open to refer MR to the opposition benches.
Own policy statement of MR
At MR, the scenario of a federal intervention in Brussels has been circulating for some time. Given the financial perils, it is a matter of time for Brussels from the banks no more money. And then you better have the prime minister’s party in the government. But there they mainly work on their own policy statement that they want to put down in the Brussels Parliament to get things moving. Although the question is especially whether they can prevent themselves from making the text too blue, so that the other parties can also agree with it. Everyone’s views are well known. They talked together long enough.

Anyway, the French-speaking liberals prefer to see all N-VA in the Brussels government. Then the line with the federal government is even more firm and-not unimportant for the party of Georges-Louis Bouchez-then the right-wing block within that government is even more firm. If it does not work via the normal road, it is also perfectly possible to go through the road that De Wever suggested.
But also on the Flemish side, the reactions are rather rejecting. « Even if it were possible, because it is not really constitutional, then you also need a government under guardianship, » says a negotiator.
Read too. The point of Van Impe. « Brussels is approaching a dangerous point: will it be controllable later? »
Open VLD chief Frédéric De Gucht believes that « the Brussels-Capital Region should be able to caps his own beans ». « You should not objection that with institutional adventures. » Although he adds immediately when, as far as he is concerned, N-VA should definitely be in the government.
And then you have the question whether De Wever can just play his « IMF-Rol ». It is not that he has already discussed it from seam to thread with his coalition partners. « We are very curious to see how that should work, » says a party chairman. « And it is remarkable that a Flemish nationalist is just coming up with this. The federal government that comes with a region, isn’t that cursing in the church? »
