Dressed in police uniform executes a politician with her husband

Minnesota (US) has been shocked by a heavy gun attack suspected to have had political motives, where state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark lost his life, while another pair of politicians were seriously injured.

Minnesota governor Tim Walz confirmed at a press conference on Saturday that Hortman and her husband were shot dead in the early hours of the morning. The attack is suspected to be a politically motivated assassination.

The target of the same aggressor were the state senator John Hoffman and his wife, who were shot several times, but thankfully survived and are currently under medical care after surgery. « We are optimistic about their healing, » said Governor Walz.

Both lawmakers are part of Minnesota’s Democratic -Pharmer -Labor -Labor Party, writes CNN.

The aggressor is still on the run, while a wide search operation is being conducted by local police, FBI, the State Patrol Service and other authorities. According to Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Buley, some people have been detained for interrogation, but there are no official arrests yet.

Authorities have described the author as a male lined with a vest, equipment like Taser, distinctive and other elements that resemble a police officer’s uniform. He is suspected to be on foot.

Around 02:00 on Saturday morning, police responded to the call to Senator Hoffman’s apartment, where he and his wife were seriously injured. About an hour later, during a proactive search at Hortman’s apartment, police officers faced the perpetrator who had previously arrived at the scene and was disguised as a police officer. After a shootout, the aggressor managed to escape.

Brooklyn Park police have issued a residence order for a 3 -mile radius from the Golf Field Edinburgh. Residents are advised not to open the door to anyone who claims to be an officer without first confirming by calling at 911.

Governor Walz has activated the State Emergency Center, while a joint information center has been established to coordinate information during the tracking operation.

« This is a shocking act of violence. I thank all law enforcement officials who are responding with dedication, » American Senator Amy Klobuchar wrote in a post on Network X. « My prayers are with Hortman and Hoffman families – both are close friends and devoted to public service. »

Former US Congressman Gabby Giffords, who has survived a similar assassination in 2011, stated: « I am terrified and heartbroken by this attack on two patriotic servants. The attack on lawmakers is an attack on American democracy itself. »

Investigations continue intensely and authorities promise new information in the coming hours and days.
