Dozens of candidates / days have been deleted from municipal election lists

Information collected by LETA shows that, in the first half of April, 5,975 candidates have been announced in the upcoming elections for the submission of candidate lists in the summer, but the total number of candidates has decreased to 5,931, so 44 candidates have already been removed from the lists.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) did not rule out the possibility of removing the candidate lists.

So far, four candidates have been deleted from the parties in Saulkrasti region, three candidates in Daugavpils, Ogre County, Riga and Saldus County. In 18 municipalities, no candidate has been removed from the lists.

In some cases, LETA has been reported so far. For example, the Dobele Election Commission had deleted Severin Repnikov from the list of candidates from the « Republic » party, as he found that he did not comply with the requirements of the law for applying for candidacy, namely he had pointed out the job in the municipality, but the Election Commission concluded that he had no certificate.

In Liepaja, on the other hand, the « Latvian Latvian third » party was deleted from the list due to the list – Alexander Vaicums.

The CEC said that providing false information about candidates is the most common reason why some municipal election candidates have been deleted.

The second main reason for the deletion of candidates is information on the criminal record of the candidate, which prevents the candidate in local elections.

According to the CEC, if a list remained in the local elections, and that information would be revealed later, the voice would be credited for a specific political force, but no voters’ marks on the deleted candidate.

The law stipulates that municipal elections cannot be applied for candidates and that persons who are sentenced to custody at custody cannot be elected to the council, persons who have been sentenced to serious or particularly serious crime, except persons who have been rehabilitated or cried or removed.

Similarly, in municipal elections, persons who have been sentenced to prohibit candidates in the elections of the Saeima, the European Parliament, except persons who have been rehabilitated or who have been deleted or removed.

It has already been reported that local elections will take place in early June.
