At least 79 people were killed and 155 were injured after a roof crashed at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic, Disaster Aid Agency Head of Disaster Juan Manuel Mendez said.

According to the BBC, at least 98 people were killed and 150 were injured.

Parts of the roof crashed on visitors to the concert of singer Ruby Perez.

The Monte Christie Province’s regional governor Neili Cruz also died, her brother on Instagram reported.

Former baseball player Tony Blanco, who has played in the United States for nine years and eight more in Japan, has also died, the baseball league said.

The reason for the crash of the roof is still unclear.

More than 300 rescuers are looking for trapped victims under rubble using thermal cameras.

– As long as there is still hope, we will continue to work. There are signs that lead us to believe that there can still be survivors – Mendez said, adding that the authorities will not give up until the last man is extracted from the rubble.

The President of the Dominican Republic of Louis Abbadader visited the disaster. « We deeply regret the tragedy in the Jet Set nightclub, » he wrote on X.

– All rescuers give the necessary support and work tirelessly on rescue. Our prayers are with the families of the affected – he added.
