Double -sided defense co -operation with France enhanced
The bilateral defense co -operation of Iceland with France will be further enhanced, but a declaration of intent to this effect was signed in the Foreign Ministry at the East Port this week.
There were also bilateral consultations on security and defense cooperation, where security challenges in the North Atlantic and the Arctic were under discussion.
This is stated in a statement from the Government of Iceland.
The French delegation together with representatives of the Ministry of Defense’s Defense Office and Marvin Ingolfsson, Deputy Secretary General of the Coast Guard Defense Division.

Iceland’s actions presented
The announcement also states that the NATO Alliance issues and the Alliance Summit in The Hague later this month were under discussion as well as support for Ukraine’s defense against the Russian War’s illegal conquest war.
Representatives of the French government were invited to a promotional tour of the security area at Keflavik Airport, where Iceland’s actions to support the NATO’s joint defense were presented, including submarine surveillance and airspace.
The Icelandic government’s increased focus on security and defense was also discussed as well as the current work on the formulation of Iceland’s first security and defense policy, which states in the announcement.
The Secretary of Defense of the Ministry of Defense and the Secretary General of the European, North America and multinational co-operation with the French Ministry of Defense, signed the declaration of intent on behalf of the states.
