Double Championship at Teknofest from Near East University – Cyprus Newspaper
Near East University, Teknofest Research Project Competition in the Agricultural Category with the Heavy Metal Team won the first place; In the Environment and Energy category, he won the Prestige Award for the Research Project Competition with Ecoceanx Team.
The Near East University, representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the Teknofest finals with 5 projects produced on the campus, managed to win two championships.
In Teknofest, where 20 teams from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were finalized, the Near East University was the most represented university with 4 projects; Near East College competed with 1 project.

Heavy Metal team was the first champion in the Teknofest finals of the Near East University. The team received the awards from the presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Ersin Tatar. Dr. Süleyman Aşır consisted of Mehmet Karagözlü, Fulya Yonucu, Valarie Oru and Behnaz Shirgir. Research Project Competition projects, which are champions in the Agricultural Category, were prepared with the target of increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring environmental sustainability.
Developed by the Heavy Metal Team, the project, which revolutionizes agriculture, allows fast and on -site detection of heavy metals such as bullets in the fields with portable sensors. Thanks to this innovative system based on electrochemical principles, soil and water quality can be analyzed instantly and both productivity and food safety can be increased.

The Near East University Ecoceanx Team, which competed in the Environment and Energy category in the Teknofest finals, was awarded the “Best Presentation Award ına at the Prestige Awards of the Research Project Competition. The project aims to build a bridge between the protection of sea ecosystems and the production of sustainable energy. Near East University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Molecular Biology and Genetics Head Asst. Assoc. Dr. The team, which competed under the supervision of Selin Deliceırmak, consisted of Melin Nisa Kılınç, Zelal Yağmur Tabak, Nur Selin Süzer, Kerem Aydoğdu and Nalin Dora. The ECOCEANX team has developed an innovative system that collects sea garbage accumulated in the coastline and converts them into recycled energy and reusable materials. In addition, the fact that this system contributes to biodiversity by protecting coastal ecosystems strengthens the environmental sustainability dimension of the project.

Teknofest is an academic stakeholder of the Near East University; President of the Committee of Trustees, who applied with the highest number of projects in Cyprus and reminded that it is the university with the highest project in the final.
