Of this phenomenon we speak mostly when some striking cases ends up the attention of the media. At the base there is always an incorrect management of the animal». Hence the choice to activate a training protocol which allows the owners to be prepared to manage any situation in which the dog can be found, outdoors but also in the domestic environment. In many cases, in fact, it is there that attacks take place, often against family members. And often it is the failure at home that favors the escape and the episodes that can achieve.

The first step was the formation of dog educators that are part of the Think Dog network, the dog training school founded by Vaira and focused on the relational cognitive method. But the goal is to involve many others on the entire national territory – there is already the support of « my dog » of Elena Mentaschi And with others, contacts have been launched – so as to make the spread of a method widespread which, in addition to the disposal of individual citizens, can also be taken as a reference by the institutions. Also the Italian Cinofili Sport Federation (Fisc) follows the initiative closely. « The goal is to direct on safety the preparation of dog educators and consequently of the people who turn to them – explains Vaira -. But what is security? It is nothing more than the awareness of power to check your animal in any situation. Today, unfortunately, many people who accompany themselves with a dog do not really have control of it ».

The protocol develops on five areas: the detentionthat is, the management of ordinary situations such as the arrival of guests at home or the exit by car; there treatmentthat is to know and recognize the fundamental needs of one’s dog as well as his states of disagreement and malaise; the parkingthat is, the ability of the animal to remain waiting in public places calmly without fear, annoyance or nervousness that can induce him to shoot or attack; there managementthat is to say the management of movements to the leash and socialization with other dogs encountered or with other people; and the freedomthat is, the awareness of what it means to free it from the leash and therefore in what places and in how to be able to do it without creating or incurring dangerous situations. The fundamental aspect is then the final evaluation which will certify whether the dog-persa binomial that has been formed by professionals is actually able to face real life without worries.

In this direction, for example, the Lombardy Region is also moved, which is working on mandatory courses for those who own breeds of breeds considered problems that will then have to pass an exam – in this case the ENCI was identified – before obtaining what has already been renamed as « license». There is no regional law in this sense, at the moment the Lombards have no obligation to training except those who reside in Milan who, by municipal regulation, have to overcome only a theoretical course if they own dogs of problematic breeds. The protocol developed by Angelo Vaira is already active and in a few days will officially debut. « We already have 174 qualified professionals in the security protocol – explains the founder of Think Dog -. Next Sunday in their centers the doors will open to all for a day dedicated to these issues, in which anyone can experience what training on management and safety means in the relationship with the dog. With the involvement of other schools we aim to make the service as large as possible. Unfortunately, the news tells us that there is a great need ».

In the face of the episodes reported by the media there are always those who minimize, claiming that it is not a problem of races but only of inadequacy of the owners. In part it is true, but equally true is that the breeds are not all the same – We also dealt with this in this study – and that some, for the physical characteristics of the animal and for the innate motivations of the breed itselfare really more problematic than others. And therefore require greater awareness. «The point is that they are precisely those breeds that are chosen lightly even by inadequate people – Vaira still underlines – who are then the first to get rid of the dog, bringing it to the kennel or abandoning it. And they are the same that are chosen in criminal environments, because they inspire fear or for illegal fights ». A greater awareness and management capacity would be desirable for all those who decide to have a dog and make him live in society. « But even more so – says the dog educator – it is used for those breeds that often resort to serious aggressions in statistics ». However, it specifies, « despite the breed it has its weight, the starting point is that If you can lead a dog and keep it safe is no longer a danger for anyone. Even pitbull and rottweiler well educated can be managed in serenity by conscious and prepared owners ».
