Does Vienna have to be car -free to create its climate goals? – Diepresse.com
Well -functioning publications are Vienna’s flagship – but is that enough to become climate -neutral? Where Vienna still has catching up to do when it comes to traffic.
More cycle paths and publications, fewer parking spaces, a traffic -calmed city center and meeting zones: many paths lead to fewer emissions in Vienna’s road traffic. How can Viennese traffic become climate -neutral? After all, traffic is still responsible for 36 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions, and 25 percent of all ways in Vienna are covered by car.
In this episode, Teresa Wirth and Christine Mayrhofer talk about the expansion of public transport, bike paths and streets, about active mobility and the lobar tunnel. Transport expert Barbara Laa von der TU Vienna explains what criticisms there are at the Viennese focus on the expansion of the subway and where Vienna could be left behind in the future.
