Favorite in reprise
For the first time since 2008 and 2009, the same team in the Stanley Cup final has made two years in a row. Then Detroit won over Pittsburgh in the first year, while Pittsburgh got his revenge the following year.
Last year, Florida won 4-3 in matches after great drama-which no one saw in front of him since Panthers went up in 3-0 lead in matches. Then Edmonton won three straight before Florida finally won the seventh and decisive match.
Herring, strawberries, small frogs – and final drama?
If the final series goes to seven matches this year, it will be midsummer hockey as the seventh match is played the night until Midsummer Day.
Can Edmonton break Canada’s drought?
Unlikely 32 years have passed since a Canadian team last won the Stanley Cup. Can superstar Connor McDavid ensure that the long drought is broken? Since the Montreal Canadiens won in 1993 over the Los Angeles Kings, Canadian team has been seven times in the final without succeeding.
McDavid has never won the Stanley Cup, but scored the decisive goal when Canada won the star tournament Four Nations in February.
Six Swedes chase the title
Ten years in a row, there has been Swedish representation in the team that has drawn the longest straw and won the Stanley Cup. This suite will be eleven years long as it is Swedish in both teams. At Edmonton there are four Swedes in back duo Mattias Ekholm (back after long -term injury) and John Klingberg and the forward couple Viktor Arvidsson and Mattias Janmark. In Florida is the back star Gustav Forsling and forward Jesper Boqvist.
Forsling joined Florida’s victory team last year.
