Doctors tried to get healthy to leave Gaza hospital-threatened

The last functioning hospital in Northern Gaza, Al-Ahli Hospital, also called the Baptist Hospital, was destroyed in an Israeli attack on Sunday.

Large parts of the hospital, including the emergency room and the reception area, were severely damaged. St. Philips church, which is adjacent to the hospital in Gaza city, was affected in the attack.

The Israeli defense, IDF, states that they were aiming for one of Hama’s « command centers » without presenting any evidence for this. The IDF also says that they made sure to warn before the attack, so that civilians could get to safety.

However, according to doctors and patients at Al-Ahli, the message came to evacuate from IDF just about 20 minutes before the attack itself. A boy with a head injury died during the rapid escape from the hospital.

Hamas denies that al-ahli was used as a terrorist center. But in Gaza people know that it is not always necessary to become a target in the eyes of IDF. It may be enough that an injured person in an intensive care unit is related to a terrorist group.

He later deleted the post, after the Hamas -controlled Health Ministry in Gaza held talks with the fractions suspected of being behind the threat.

– Of course I’m afraid. I’m not a superhero. But I think God protects me, as long as I serve my people and my country, says Mohammad Saqr.

Negotiations on ceasefire in Gaza are ongoing while the war continues to collapse. Hope is that a new proposal for an agreement will be through – this would mean, among other things, that ten Israeli hostages will be released, against 45 days of weapons.
