Do you know all the benefits offered by meat “selected quality

When you reach for meat with this sign, you first do a lot of good for yourself, and at the same time for the Slovenian countryside, Slovenia’s self -sufficiency, the Slovenian economy and the environment. This is also confirmed by our interlocutor Marko Majer, Head of Certification of Nutrition Products at Bureau Veritas, et al. Luka Juvančič, Agrarian Economist and Associate Professor of Economics of Natural Resources at the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana.

Good for you

By buying meat with a sign “Selected Quality – Slovenia” You will get the meat of Slovenian origin of excellent quality, which is also fresher due to short delivery routes. Marko Majer from Bureau Veritas explains: “All poultry and beef with the sign ‘selected quality – Slovenia’ is fully produced and processed in Slovenia. Traceability must also be ensured, which is very well regulated by animals. The stern meal for cattle must contain at least 50 percent of the voluminous feed and there should be no ingredients from the negative list, which lists the additives and feeds not allowed in the ‘selected quality’ scheme. In poultry, feed without animal proteins should be added to the selenium, as it increases the nutritional value of the meat and has many beneficial effects on the human body. Transportation of animals in cattle should not exceed six hours and for poultry no longer than five hours. «

The quality of the meat and compliance with the requirements of the « selected quality » scheme are checked and regularly monitored by three certification bodies: Bureau Veritas, Institute for Control and Certification in Agriculture and Forestry Maribor (Kon-Cert Institute) and the Institute for the Control and Certification of the University of Maribor (IKC UM). “All breeders, whether part of the group or individuals, are performed at least once a year. The same applies to each individual processor, « Majer assures.

Your decision to buy meat with a sign “Selected Quality – Slovenia” It also affects Slovenian farmers. For breeders, this means long -term safety. “Growers have a reliable buyer of their products, so they do not have to worry about where with crops or products. This buyer is a processor interested in buying their raw material because he wants to mark the final product with the sign ‘selected quality – Slovenia’, which means a good food – but needs their raw material. The processors thus provide a stable flow of raw materials with technological indicators, for the quality of which the state guarantees, « explains Dr. Luka Juvančič.

Good for Slovenia’s self -sufficiency and Slovenian economy

Your decision to buy meat with the sign « Selected Quality – Slovenia » triggers the so -called Domin effect, as it affects the functioning of the entire food chain. “It is an interconnectedness, dependence between actors – growers, logistics, slaughterhouse or processing, and the like. In this interconnectedness, a long -term and more stable change between them is established, so in the end we get everyone, with the buyer. From the point of view of the entire agri -food system, however, this is crucial. If the raw material we produced does not end on a plate of the home customer, we did not complete this task in terms of self -care. At the same time, these are broader benefits, as we also maintain jobs and strengthen our economy, « says Juvančič.

Good for the environment

Buy meat with a sign “Selected Quality – Slovenia” Due to short delivery routes, it is also useful for the environment. Larger quantities of home -grown animal feed also contribute to this. “Because less feed is imported from elsewhere, it has a beneficial effect on the carbon footprint. With high quality feed, we also have less burdened by the body of animals with metabolites and other harmful substances that could otherwise be in animal feed – these are all direct effects on the environment. Then there are global effects – climate change, to which we also contribute a lot, so it is a good idea to strive for consuming more sustainable products, « warns Juvančič.
