It usually occurs with the first sudden increase in temperature in the spring, so given the weather forecast, I actually expect patients to start reporting me these days symptoms of spring fatigue. Unfortunately, there is no great advice on how to fight them, except maybe not to fight, but to accept that state of adjusting the body to the transition between winter and spring, says prof. Ph.D. Hrvoje Tiljak, a family doctor from Novi Zagreb.

Special spring fatigue

He says that the problem is basically the wrong south, that is, a sudden increase in temperature, combined with a slightly longer days, which makes us more physically active, and the body is still « programmed » on the winter dream. Therefore, exhaustion, headache, stress and increased fatigue and drowsiness during the day can occur. Many, deceived by higher temperatures throughout the day, will be removed into short sleeves, especially during the work in the garden or yard, but the weather can still be windy and deceptive, and are more common and spring colds, which can further exhaust the body. Also, many increase physical activity, and forget about the need to further moisturize the body.

– That is why one of the important recommendations for preserving health in this period is to be careful to dress layered, that we can easily take off or dress a layer of clothing as needed, and to take care of bringing enough fluid into the body. Try to establish quality sleep hygiene, so you go to bed and get up at about the same time, with the body to provide the body from seven to eight hours of sleep – advises prof. Ph.D. Tiljak.

He adds that people who suffer from spring allergies and use allergy drugs should be additionally careful because some of these drugs have a sedating effect, and this may enhance the symptoms of fatigue. It is certainly important to work on changing your diet, that is, to cross a little from heavy winter foods to lighter spring stews with more vegetables. You can consult your doctor and use some vitamins and minerals during adaptation to the spring rhythm.

The most important vitamin D is here for us, because of the influence it has on immunity and the fact that at the end of the winter is probably at the lowest levels. If you have not used vitamin D supplement in winter, now is a good time for one course, to strengthen your immunity – advises your doctor. Although most people can hardly wait more beautiful days to start running or exercising abruptly, or significantly increasing physical activity, this is not the best approach in this period, he adds.
