Again and again I noticed at work and in private use that Deepl translates better than Google Translate. Google has gigantic resources and data at hand, is at the forefront in the AI area. So how is that possible?
It is the focus. Deepl is all about language. Google can theoretically throw the resources on everything, but translation there is rather a means to an end, for example to improve searches and advertising or consumer -oriented applications if you want to have translated a menu. We have more complicated use cases from the economy, where it is about translating a contract or a patent plaque. The quality standards are much higher.
Deep not only makes less gross mistakes, it also captures nuances better, and the language flow sounds more natural. Do you choose the data with which data you use to feed the models?
