DMI with gloomy message: Heavy rain in waiting
Summer has come, but it can’t be seen on the weather.
The sun may shine across large parts of Denmark over the weekend, but for residents of the southeastern part of the country there is good reason to keep an eye on the clouds.
A smaller low pressure moves over Southeast Funen, Langeland, Lolland, Falster, Mon and Zealand during Sunday, and it notifies marked amounts of rain, potentially accompanied by thunder.
According to DMI, this is a situation where the rain falls in copious amounts in a short time, which has led to an official risk of heavy rain.
They write that on their Website
From early Sunday morning until the evening hours, several places in the affected areas can be expected between 10 and 25 millimeters of rain, and locally can fall up to 35 millimeters.
The Danish weather service defines heavy rain as at least 30 millimeters in 24 hours, and the risk is therefore within the limit of potentially problematic rainfall.
The combination of low pressure, moisture and heat creates ideal conditions for heavy showers, and DMI does not rule out that some of them will be accompanied by thunder.
Police Chief Mette Zhang states on Saturday afternoon that they are closely monitoring the development and will update the situation continuously if conditions develop in a more serious direction.
The rain is expected to move from the west and southwest over the region and can therefore hit staggered, depending on local conditions.
It may be a good idea to secure gutters, basement shafts and other exposed places if you live in areas that are often hit hard under cloud -like conditions.
The weather once again shows its whimsical side, and while large parts of the country may enjoy summer atmosphere, others should have both rain jacket and caution at hand.
