Divided opinions within the majority canceled the proposal
Life Magneudóttir, the Left Green's leader, says divided opinions within the majority in the city are the reason why the Independence Party's proposal that the city further support the establishment of kindergarten or daycare in the workplace of parents.
It was reported on Tuesday that the majority did not intend to grant Alvotech permission to build a kindergarten that would serve the company's staff.
Divided views within the majority
In a conversation with mbl.is, however, Life says nineteen self -employed kindergartens are in Reykjavik. Strictly speaking, Alvotech could contact an educational institution or someone who has professional knowledge, applied for and opened kindergartens, if the company meets all the conditions.
« Nothing is taken for that. Anyone can seek to the City of Reykjavik with ideas for starting a kindergarten, and it is just examined in each case. «
However, it is another matter if there are certain special needs, such as the children of Alvotech's employees are given priority in that kindergarten.
« There are differences of views on these ideas within this new collaboration, so we just decided to leave it in between. »
A policy change that requires a political debate
Líf also says that there is a conceptual change in preschool policy that requires political debate.
She says the conversations of Einar Þorsteinsson, former mayor, with Alvotech, have been « in the shadows » and it feels strange that the new ideas of business playing school have not been formally served within the city council and discussed politically.
« Maybe he could have done better, to formulate this somehow towards us. Now it is very short since I was in the minority. «
Ready to meet with anyone
Are you open to meeting with Alvotech for some kind of continuation?
« I am ready to meet with anyone and hear their views, » says Líf, and also notes that she welcomes the debate on preschool issues that are needed.
