Dismantled network that trafficked plastic waste in Portugal, France and Spain

Dismantled network that trafficked plastic waste in Portugal, France and Spain

A total of five people were arrested on suspicion of belonging to a network that trafficked plastic waste in Portugal, France and Spain to send worldwide, and fifteen others are being investigated.

In a note, this Tuesday released, the Spanish Civil Guard states that the arrests took place under the “Finoplast” operation, which led to the operationalization of six searches in Spain, France and Portugal.

The Civil Guard states that most of the trafficked plastics were transported in Portuguese trucks to various storage points in Spain, and then sent to countries around the world.

They were transported in this way, from Portugal and France to Spain, 18,800 tons of plastic, according to the investigation.

« This garbage was transported by Portuguese truck trucks taking advantage of their return trips between the two countries (Portugal and France) », being deposited in the region of León and Valencia (northwest and east of Spain), without the proper authorizations, explains the Civil Guard.

“More than 18,800 tons of waste will have been transported from Franca and Portugal. Part of this trash was abandoned at the premises (where they were deposited) and the rest was sent to third countries illegally, making it go through raw materials or falsifying environmental documentation,” says the same note.
