Disinfection / day of water pipes will take place in Riga from Monday

It will begin at all water supply pumping stations simultaneously, with the disinfectant spreading evenly throughout the city’s water supply network.

Although it does not pose a threat to health, it is recommended to consume boiled water during disinfection of the water pipes.

Water can also be safely used for economic work without decoction. For pets, birds, fish, etc., it is advisable to leave the water intended for use before giving, as well as watering houseplants.

During the water pipeline disinfection, tap water acquires an unpleasant aroma and may also have a slight chlorine flavor, but this substance is not harmful to health or dangerous for disinfection purposes.

The situation of « Riga Water » will be monitored continuously, closely following the concentration of chlorine in the water.

Disinfection of water supply networks for prophylactic purposes is recommended at least every two years. It is a priority and requires the treatment of drinking water for its constant high quality assurance.

The last time a comprehensive water pipe networks were disinfected in Riga was held in February 2024.

LETA has already reported that the turnover of « Riga Water » last year was EUR 76,336 million, which is 0.1% less than in 2023. As a result of the assets, the company had a loss of EUR 18,275 million, as opposed to profit in 2023, according to information published by the company.

« Riga Water » provides city water supply services in Riga and in several territories of Pieriga – Adazi, Ropazi, Marupe and Kekava districts, as well as wastewater collection and treatment services. The sole owner of the company is Riga Municipality.
